Sacaton Aboriginal

    • Gossypium hirsutum.  Grown by the Akimel O'odham for food and fiber until 1900. Padre Kino noted the extensive cotton fields and use of the fiber for weaving into clothing and blankets. This variety, related to Hopi cotton, was maintained by the Field Station in Sacaton, Arizona, for many years under the name Sacaton Aboriginal. The O'odham planted cotton "when the mesquite began to leaf out."  From our Seed Bank Collection.

    • A warm weather crop that requires hot weather and a long season.

easy germination

I started some seeds ahead in the greenhouse that I will plant out later in the season. Fast, 100% germination rate... so far so good!

Absolutely phenomenal

Great for reconnecting natives trying to get back in touch with their plant relatives. I am so grateful to have a source for the seeds from both parts of my Tewa and Hopi heritage. I made sure that my father got his seeds as well and he was so grateful. Our hearts are full.
