  • Zea mays.  A Mexican-June type corn grown by Yoeme farmers with irrigation near Pótam and Vícam, Sonora.   Used to make hominy/posole by soaking overnight in water with lime or mesquite ash, then ground into masa for tortillas. Large kernels, mostly white and yellow, on thick cobs.  From our Seed Bank Collection.

    • The plants can grow to 9 feet tall.
